Obituary

Ruthelma Ann (White) Hunter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted member of the Nazarene faith, completed her earthly journey on April 29, 2024, at the age of 78. She was born on January 17, 1946, near Vici, Oklahoma, to Ora Alvin White and Marjorie Adeline (Shaw) White.  Ruthelma was raised on the family farm near Vici with eight siblings and she grew up in the Vici community.

Her school years were spent in the Vici Public School System, where she graduated in 1964. Following graduation, Ruthelma attended Bethany Nazarene College, earning an Associate's Degree.   She was united in marriage to Eliot Hunter on June 26, 1965 in Bethany, OK.   Their union was blessed with two daughters, Rosemary and Sonya.

Throughout their marriage, the family established homes in Marysville and Citrus Heights, California, Medford, Oregon, and Calico Rock, Arkansas, before finally settling in Norman, Oklahoma. Ruthelma's faith was a constant source of strength in her life. As a lifelong member of the Nazarene church, she served in numerous roles, including Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, children's church coordinator, women's ministries leader, and church secretary. Even when her health no longer allowed her to attend in person, she remained faithful by watching services online.

Ruthelma worked in a variety of fields, including business ownership, library work, and legal secretarial duties. She had many interests, from sewing and ceramics to reading and other craft projects. These hobbies brought her joy and were a source of connection with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Marjorie White, and three of her siblings, Elton White, Mendall White, and Marveta Brindle. Ruthelma's memory will be cherished by her beloved husband of nearly 59 years, Eliot Hunter of Norman, Oklahoma; her daughters, Rose Godfrey of Japan and Sonya Smith of Brownsville, California; her siblings, Lenard White of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lelan White of Olivehurst, California, Gordon White of Sharon, Oklahoma, Shirlene Oakes of Cleo Springs, Oklahoma, and Carolyn Thiessen of Colorado; fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.

May her gentle soul rest in peace, and may her family find comfort in the loving memories she has left behind.
