Obituary

Sarah Etta Moss Nere 66 year old Vici resident passed from this life on February 26, 2009 at her home. She was born to Raymond and Sarah Margaret (Winters) Moss at Vici, Oklahoma, March 26, 1942, and lost her mother just 12 days later. She was the youngest of 12 children. Later, she obtained many other mothers in the Faith. After her mother's passing, her father was united in marriage to Cora Diffendaffer of Rocky, Oklahoma. Cora became Etta's loving and doting mother and Etta loved her dearly.

She attended Vici Public Schools graduating from Vici High School on May 17, 1960. She also attended Enid Business College at Enid, Oklahoma. She was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on February 6, 1964 by Bro. Jack Robinson at Enid, Oklahoma. While living in Enid, Oklahoma, she met the love of her life, Bro. Ralph Nere, and they were married at her fathers' home in Vici, Oklahoma on March 14, 1964. Etta and Ralph lived in Enid, Oklahoma City, Vici, and finally settling in Prosser, Washington. They purchased one acre of land on the Yakima River and moved into their new home on January of 1970. Their many pleasures of life were farming, raising Hereford cattle, working in the yard and rose garden. Etta also embroidered and quilted many baby quilts for family, brethren and friends.

On May 12, 1983, Etta's life changed drastically when her husband, Ralph passed away. After returning home from his funeral, Etta was determined to keep their dreams going. After working an 8 to 12 hour day, depending on the season at Holtzinger's, she would go home to her cattle, milk the goats, feed the baby calves, gather the eggs, and feed the chickens. In September of 1993, with winter coming and having to face the long drives on the winter roads, Etta began to think of going home. After 22 years of living in Prosser, Washington, she started selling her animals, farm and finally quitting her job.
On October 19, 1993, Donald and Danny Moss flew to Prosser, rented a U-Haul Truck, loaded it and started for Oklahoma. After arriving in Vici, Etta purchased her home on Houser Street and began working for Ila Gregory. Failing health forced Etta to retire in 2005. Her days were filled with yard work. She was probably the first to mow her lawn each spring and then mowed it once a week, if not more, all summer. She, with the help of a special friend, Beverly Drake, spent many hours working in her flower beds. No matter how hard she worked, she just couldn't get her roses to grow like they did in Washington. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews, and all small babies. She also loved to listen to Gospel and Bluegrass music.

Etta was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Nere; her parents, Ray and Maggie Moss; her step-mother, Cora Moss; four brothers, Laverle, Wesley, Donald, and Gerald Moss; six sisters, Theda Cramer, Theo Randolph, Josephine McAlary, Ophelia Moss, Elsiedean Carpenter, and Vivian White; her in-laws, William and Orrie Nere.

She is survived by one sister, Christine Clark and husband, Claude of Mutual; three sisters-in-law, Marie Moss and Evelyn Moss of Vici, and Ramona Moss of Yukon, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews, brethren and a host of friends.
