Shelly Kay (Thorn) Rittenhouse was born March 31, 1959, in Perryton, Texas, to Billy Gene and Polly Jean (Taylor) Thorn. She passed from this life on February 20, 2014, at the age of 54.
Shelly lived in Spearman, Texas, until the age of 5. Her family moved to Arnett, OK, in 1964, where Shelly attended school through the sixth grade. In 1972, her family moved to Guymon, OK. She made her permanent home in Woodward, OK, in 1983.
Shelly was united in marriage to Rick Rittenhouse on June 12, 1992, in Lipscomb, TX. They made their home north of Woodward on the Rittenhouse home place and moved recently to Woodward.
Shelly loved to shop and Rick loved to eat so they frequently ventured on out-of-town trips. She also loved to fish and shared numerous fish stories. Her greatest God-given gift was her contagious smile. Shelly cherished young and old and delighted in giving to others. Shelly adored babysitting her 4-year-old niece, Tayler, since birth. She beamed when Tayler learned to talk calling her "Elle". Shelly was excited to receive her GED in 2001.
During her youth, she attended the Union Church in Spearman, then later attended the Apostolic Church in Arnett and Woodward. In recent years, she was a member of the Woodward Church of the Nazarene.
She is preceded in death by her father Bill and grandparents Paul and Dorothy (Mitts) Taylor and Lester and Ruby Dockins.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Rick; mother, Jeanie; brother, Donny Thorn & wife Melody; sister, Kristie Thorn – all from Woodward; step-children Rhonda Cusumano & husband Mark; Rick Jr. & wife Candace; and Corey – all from Florida; nephew Matthew Thorn & wife Kelly of Maize, KS; niece Michelle Spray & husband Brad of Sharon, OK; 5 grandsons; and numerous relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014, at 2 PM at the Woodward Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Shane Rackley officiating with assistance from Pastor Tim Estes. Services will be under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home. Interment followed at Rock Church Cemetery north of Woodward.
