Obituary

Sterling Scott Camp was born to Earl Frederick Camp and Dean Allen Camp in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 7, 1958. After spending his early years in Oklahoma City, his family moved to Buffalo in 1961. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1977, where he participated in football, track, baseball, and band. He was the best drummer in the state by his senior year of high school (self-proclaimed) and played in several bands in his teens and twenties.

Sterling spent a few years after high school building the oil pipeline and traveled all over the United States. He also married and became a father for the first time with the arrival of a son, Chad Camp in 1981. Then, in 1983, he met Tami Anderson during the Vici Cattle Drive. After one year of dating, they tied the knot on May 12, 1984 and settled down in Vici, Oklahoma. They were married for 38 years and had three children: Camber, Christa, and Clay. During his time in Vici, Sterling spent 35 years working at Iochem with his last role being the boiler operator for the facility. Outside of work, he spent a lot of time at the ballfields while his kids were growing up, coaching many of their little league teams. He was also instrumental in the building of the little league fields that are still in use today, with the help of many community members including his good friend, Roger Boone. In his later years, Sterling enjoyed spending his time fishing, watching golf or football, playing with his grandchildren, and taking his wife and dog, Charlee, on back road drives to watch the sunset.

Sterling passed peacefully in his home in Vici, Oklahoma on August 28, 2022 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 63. Sterling is preceded in death by his father, Earl Frederick Camp, his mother, Dean Allen Camp, and his mother-in-law, Doris Vaughna Lowder. He is survived by his siblings: Ronald Camp, Ransom Camp, and Bill & Caron Morris. He is also survived by his wife, Tami Camp, his four children and their spouses: Chad Camp, Jerod Cline & Camber Cline, Christa Camp & John Hiers II, and Clay & Madison Camp, and 5 grandchildren: Adelyn Lee Cline, Leilah Camp, Caden Scott Cline, Asher Thomas Cline, and Dean McKnight Camp.

His family will remember him for his witty quips like: "you betcha" and "there you have it", always calling his little league team kids "t-ballers", and always encouraging his children to be tough-minded and never quitters, because Camps CAN. While we miss him here on Earth, we are comforted to know he is no longer in pain. We hope he's found his heavenly fishing pond, has a Busch light in hand, and the sand bass are biting. There you have it.
