IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan
Stevens
February 9, 1962 – January 15, 2025
Kay Susan (Kost) Stevens, known better as "Susan", 62, went to her peaceful, Heavenly home January 15th, 2025 surrounded by a few of her favorite people. Susan, in character, put up one brave fight against pancreatic cancer surpassing all doctors expectations.
Susan was born February 9, 1962 in Liberal, KS. She was the youngest of three children born to George Leon and Verdie Lu (Zirkle) Kost. She later moved to Gate, OK with her grandparents Barney and Ester Zirkle. Susan attended school in Gate later transferring to Laverne where she would graduate in 1980.
As a young child Susan was active and developed athletic-traits she would carry lifelong. Her favorite activities included basketball and tennis. In 1980 she All-Stated in Basketball. She would then go on to play tennis on a scholarship at Dodge City Community College. It is even rumored that as late as 2023 she was still whipping Krista and Hadley on the basketball court.
Susan was a mother to two wonderful daughters, Krista and Janetta. As a mother she was known to keep them in line, but always with a bit of humor in tow. She loved to have family gatherings at her home with her kids and their families.
On July 28, 2012 Susan would wed the love of her life Lance Stevens. She would happily inherit a step son, Kyle Stevens ,at the same time. They made their home in Arnett, OK. It brought her joy to make her yard and home both beautiful spaces. They could often be found in their yard working beside each other or outside decorating for the holidays. This was something Susan thoroughly enjoyed-Lance was mostly along for the ride, but loved spending time with her. Rooting on their favorite basketball team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, was another activity they thoroughly enjoyed together. She took never missing a game very seriously.
Susan was a proud Nana to three grandkids who lit her world up. She was Hadley, Kindrey, and Miles's biggest fan. They were all a huge fan of her as well. She was always around to cheer them on whatever they were doing.
Susan dedicated 30 years of her life to the public school system. Serving in both the Laverne and Shattuck school districts. She touched the lives of countless students during her time in the classrooms. She would also make a lasting impact on those who worked beside her. She was friendly and made many lifelong friendships through her school years.
If you knew Susan you knew her love of bowling! This was a decades long hobby. She loved league night and all of the ladies. She was an accomplished bowler-having made state several times. Winning State in 2016!
Susan was a dedicated servant of the Arnett Methodist Church. She was involved in the Methodist Woman's group and volunteered at Vacation Bible School every year. She was happy to play a role in their church family.
Susan was a wonderful wife, mother, Nana, and friend. She was hardworking in anything that she was involved with and always maintained a great attitude. Her family hope that her spirit will continue to live through them.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Leon and Verdie Lu Kost, her sister, Robin Campbell, her mother-in-law, Emma Lee Stevens and her sister-in-law, Lisa Stevens.
Susan is survived by husband, Lance Stevens, of the home. Daughters, Janetta Spurgeon, of Canadian, TX, Krista Gaisford, husband Tyler and children, Hadley and Kindrey, of Arnett, OK.
