Obituary

Ted Kendrick Butts of Woodward, Oklahoma, passed from this life on October 12, 2014in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 92. He was born to Olin Martin and Lulu (Brightly) Butts on January 25, 1922 in Ellis County Oklahoma. Ted spent his childhood days in the Bishop Community attending Valley View one room school and graduating from Bishop High School with the class of 1941. Ted loved his school days and especially enjoyed basketball.

Ted married Vivian Stout on July 19, 1941 in Arnett, Oklahoma. To this union four children were born, Linda, Judy, Kenneth and Reta. The couple started their family on a ranch in Lipscomb County, TX before moving back to the Bishop community. In 2010 the couple moved to the Providence Place in Woodward, OK where support and care was always given.

Ted was baptized and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Higgins, TX. He worked as a farmer/rancher, enjoying hunting, playing "42" and dominoes. Ted was a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan. He served on the Bishop School Board, the Church of the Nazarene Board for over fifty years and was a Sunday School Superintendent.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, parents, Olin and Lulu Butts, brother's Melvin and Laverne Butts and sister Clareen Barela.

He is survived by his children, Linda Nicholson and husband Bill of Higgins, TX, Judy Davis and husband Mike of Neosho, MO, Reta Horner and husband Rick of Van Alstyne, TX and Kenneth Butts and wife Charlie of Pontotoc, MS; brother L.D. Butts of Alamo, TX; sister June Kidd of Simi Valley, CA; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 8 nieces, 5 nephews, other family and a host of friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, wealth of homespun expressions, unfailing optimism and commitment to his family, neighbors and community.
