Thomas Wayne Carman, known to many as Tom, passed away on February 24, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born on October 26, 1945, in Camargo, Oklahoma, to Arthur and Sylva Carman.
Tom was baptized at the age of 10 and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. He attended all 12 years of school in Camargo and graduated with the Class of 1963. He went on to study at Panhandle State University from 1963 to 1968. On May 27, 1967, Tom married the love of his life, LaRay Carman, at the First Baptist Church in Vici, Oklahoma. The couple first made their home in Goodwell, Oklahoma, for a year then moved to Camargo before settling on the family farm near Camargo in 1970. Together, they raised four children: Thomas Wayne Carman Jr, Carie Sue Carman, Amanda Dawn Carman, and Cynthia Arlene Lambert.
Tom was a member of the Masons and a faithful servant of the First Christian Church of Camargo, where he served on the church board, first as a Deacon and later as an Elder. His devotion to his community was evident in his decades of service. He was a proud recipient of the Lifetime Service Award from Vici-Camargo EMS and was honored as "Fan of the Year" by Vici Indians Basketball and Softball for his enthusiastic support. For over 40 years, Tom served as an EMT, an EMT and CPR instructor, and later as a board member for Vici-Camargo Ambulance.
Beyond his civic contributions, Tom was a passionate farmer, gardener, and community supporter. He was known for his love of local high school sports, his involvement in coaching and assisting little league teams, and his generous spirit in helping others.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Sylva Carman; brothers Marion, Leo, Charles, and Walter Carman; and sister Carol Nicolai.
He is survived by his loving wife, LaRay Carman of Camargo; his children, Thomas Wayne Carman Jr. of Camargo, Carie Sue Carman of Norman, Amanda Dawn Carman of Camargo, and Cynthia Arlene Lambert of El Reno; his sisters Jean Bochow of Stuttgart, Germany; Mary Hardesty of Kingston, his brother Everett Carman of Woodward; his brother Robert Carman of Weatherford; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, with another expected soon; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Tom will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. His kindness, generosity, and passion for helping others have left a lasting legacy.
