Travis Leland (Rasco) Bowman, daughter of Clifton Travis Rasco and Dovie Lou (Easter) Rasco was born November 28, 1938 in Collingsworth County, TX, and passed from this life October 19, 2018 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 79 years. She grew up in Kingsmill, TX and attended grade school and high school in Pampa.
On April 15, 1961 in Pampa, Travis married Orlin Wayne Bowman and made their first home in Woodward, OK. In 1972, Orlin and Travis purchased his family farm near Harmon, OK and moved to the farm. Their home was blessed with four children, Melody Ann, Arnita Faye, William Wayne and Gayla Lea.
Travis took to the new farm life and the "Bowman Farm" became a haven for family and friends. She was more than 100 percent dedicated to her children and grandchildren and to her community. She filled her days with stock shows, Arnett baseball, softball and basketball, Woodward football, and fairs with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her 40 plus years of service were recognized with numerous awards including, Oklahoma 4-H Honorary Member, Ellis County Outstanding 4-H Club Leader, Arnett FFA Mother of the Year, Arnett Honorary Chapter FFA Degree, and Woodward 4-H Honorary Leader.
Travis was a pioneer in the 80's behind cinnamon roll and bierox fundraising in northwest Oklahoma. For over 30 years, Travis perfected her recipes, helped organize sales drives and concession stands, and trained hundreds of young bread makers and leaders to raise funds for their organizations.
In addition to cooking for the family and the community and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Travis loved creating new recipes for the county and state Wheatheart Bread contests and won more than her fair share over the years. Best of all, her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other "adopted" grandchildren joined "Grandma at the Farm" in her quest. The family also helped her with watermelon growing, vegetable garden, canning, egg farming, Jersey cow milk production, rose gardening, and cattle farming. She was very blessed with neighbors that were always available with a helping hand and with her brother Tony who helped her continue at the farm after the death of her husband. With her "spare" time, this amazingly busy woman loved knitting and crocheting presents and watching football and basketball on TV.
This "Pillar of the Community" attended the Harmon Nazarene Church where she helped with Bible school and with organizing and cooking church dinners and other community events.
"Mother Bowman" and "Grandma Travis" was "Magnificent" and will be greatly missed but never forgotten by family, friends and the community. The most important things that she tried to teach us…WORK HARD, try new things, help each other and be kind. She made us get out of our comfort zone and a part of her will remain with all of us.
Loved ones preceding her in death are her parents, Clifton and Dovie Rasco, her husband, Orlin Bowman, two sisters, Gloria Beth Norris and Priscilla Rasco, and brothers Gerald Rasco, Lonzo Cody, and Carl Rollins. Cherishing her memory are her children, Melody Thorn and husband Donny of Woodward, Arnita Bowman and husband Henry Lorenz of Czech Republic, William Bowman and wife Angie of Collinsville, and Gayla Bowman of Harmon, and 6 cherished grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Also cherishing her memories are her brother Tony Rasco of Harmon, sister-in-law Joyce Rasco of Pampa, TX, sister-in-law Claretta Shaw of Dumas, TX, brother-in-law Mervin Bowman of Vici, sister-in-law Judy Rollins of Nicoma Park, aunt Lily Rasco of Enid, and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, at 10:00 AM at the Harmon Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be available at Shaw Funeral Home of Vici on Sunday 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM and Monday 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM.
