Obituary

Treva Jane Hedges (Rinard) passed away on 12/05/2024 at Spanish Cove Retirement center in Yukon, Oklahoma.  She was born to Ollie and William Rinard in Neodesha, Kansas on 3/05/1927.  Treva was preceded in death by her best friend and husband Brian C. Hedges, her parents, brother Harland Rinard, an infant son, one grandson, and one great grandson.  She is survived by her 2 sons, Jerry Hedges (wife Joyce) of Eufaula, OK, Jeff Hedges (wife Vicki) of Kingsland, TX, as well as 3 daughters, Jayne Christensen (husband Bobby) of Midwest City, OK, Judy Trent (husband David) of Spiro, OK and Janet Raef (husband James) of Kingsland, TX.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

At an early age, Treva moved to Leedey, Oklahoma with her family and later to Woodward where she went to school through the 12th grade.  She obtained a teaching certificate from Northwestern State in Alva and taught as the only teacher in a one room school in the Oklahoma panhandle during WW II. She married Brian Hedges on April 5, 1946 and moved with him to the Hedges farm near Mutual OK.  In 1953, they started a dairy and were successful dairy farmers for more than 30 years.  In 1961, they were named Oklahoma Farm Family of the Year.

In addition to working on the farm and raising 5 children, Treva remained very active in the community.  She and Brian were members of the Christian Church in Vici and later in Mutual.  She was an active participant in the Ladies Home Demonstration club, was a 4-H leader as well as a teacher of quilting, knitting and crocheting classes.  She was a seamstress and baked and decorated cakes for her family and for others in the community for several years.  She was an amazing role model for her own children as well as for many other children and young homemakers in the community.  She would not want to be thought of as a women's libber, but she was a very strong and independent woman.

Two years after Brian passed away in 2000, Treva moved to Yukon, OK and has lived at Spanish Cove for the past 22 years.  She was very active in retirement and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, sewing, exercising and just hanging out with her friends and family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Yukon.

Treva was a great mother and wife.  She will be missed by all those who knew her.  A graveside memorial service is planned for Sunday, 12/08/2024 at 3:00 PM at Sunnyside Cemetery in Vici, OK.
