Velma Loretta Haney longtime Leedey resident, died at the Bell Avenue Nursing Center on August 16, 2007. The daughter of Jay and Lillie Addington, Loretta was born on May 13, 1925 on the family farm near Aledo, Oklahoma. Loretta attended Aledo country school through the 8th grade. She was united in marriage on September 1, 1942 to Walter Leon Haney at the court house in Arapaho, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Leedey, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with 5 children: Gary, Roy Lee, Dale, Jo and Eldon.
Loretta worked as a secretary for the county. After retiring she began helping with the county election board. She enjoyed time with family, cooking for family and friends, fishing, canning and gardening. She was proud that at the same time, 8 grandchildren were in college. Loretta was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leedey.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Haney, infant baby, Roy Lee Haney, granddaughter, Michelle Haney Anderson, grandson, Stacey Leon Haney, great grandson, Jantz Calaway, by sisters: Rosa Lee Martin, Viola Williams, Anna Mae Baumgartner, Leona Adams and Naomi Touchstone, by brothers: J.C. Addington, Clarence Addington and Everett Addington.
She is survived by her children, Gary Haney and wife Karen of Elk City, Oklahoma, Dale Haney and wife Susan of Elk City, Jo Mahaffey and husband Bruce of Okeema, Oklahoma and Eldon Haney and wife Cathy of Leedey; by a sister, Pauline Williams and husband Snooks of Kimball, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Ovada Kauk of Butler, Oklahoma; brothers-in-law, Johnny Grant of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Delbert Kauk of Leedey; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family, and a host of friends.
