Obituary

Velma Marie "Johnson" Jackson, homemaker, farmer/rancher, died June 25, 2009, at the Vici Nursing Home in Vici, Oklahoma. Velma was 86 years, 11 months and 17 days at her passing. She was born July 9, 1922 at Mooreland, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late James Kirby and Marion Ferol Lewis Johnson.

Velma's childhood was spent on farms in Mooreland, Harmon and Sharon, Oklahoma. She attended the country schools completing the eighth grade.

On June 19, 1943, Velma married Johnie Leland Jackson at Arnett, Oklahoma. Four children were born to this union: Leland Max, Darlene Ann, Leona Marie and Ronnie Dale. The couple also welcomed a niece Vickie Colleen Coulson and a nephew Rick Hanlon into their home. The family lived in the Vici area and worked hard on the farm.

On May 4, 2004 Velma, along with her husband Johnie, accepted Christ as her savior at her home in Vici, Oklahoma. Velma was a true homemaker, working daily to make sure meals were ready and house work was done, but along with this she was very active attending to livestock and helping Johnie run the farm. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those preceding Velma in death were here husband, Johnie L. Jackson; her son, Leland Max Jackson; her parents, James Kirby and Marion Ferol Johnson; four brothers: Tim Johnson, James Kirby Johnson, Jr., Harold Dean Johnson, and Murlyn Ralph Johnson; two sisters, Zona Colleen Hanlon and Kayleen Lanham and a special nephew, Rick Hanlon.

Velma is survived by her daughters, Darlene Ann Bryant and husband Bill of Camargo, Oklahoma and Leona Marie Kirkwood and husband Jim of Mutual, Oklahoma; her son Ronnie Dale Jackson of Vici, Oklahoma; two special nieces Vickie Colleen Coulson and Cheryl Hanlon; a special nephew, Dennis Hanlon; 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
