IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vena Pearl
(Lynes) Bookstore
November 19, 1933 – June 10, 2024
Vena Pearl (Lynes) Bookstore, a 90-year-old resident of Woodward, OK, passed away on June 10, 2024. Vena was born on November 19, 1933, west of Vici, OK, at her grandmother's house to James and Opal (Strain) Lynes. She grew up in the Vici area and attended Vici Public Schools through the 11th grade, later graduating as an honor student from Woodward High School with the Class of 1952.
On August 24, 1952, Vena married the love of her life, William Leroy "Bill" Bookstore, in Woodward, OK. They were blessed with three sons, Charles, Leroy, and Brian, and became a farming family. The family moved north to the original homestead near Freedom, OK, living there until 1963. Bill and Vena later built a new home close to the homestead, residing there until 2004 when Bill's health declined, prompting their move to Woodward.
Vena was a Jill of all trades, working for 25 years as the secretary for Harper County District III, contributing significantly to the survival and success of the family ranch, which received the Centennial Ranch designation in 2002. She operated a saltwater well and was a dedicated homemaker, enjoying raising her boys and involving herself in their stock show activities. Vena loved horses and was baptized at a young age in the First Baptist Church. She attended the Freedom West Union Church with her sons and was a member of the Woodward Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
In her spare time, Vena enjoyed knitting, embroidering, and crocheting. She was known for her calm nature, pleasant demeanor, and meticulous planning to ensure everything fit into her busy schedule. She was a guiding light for her grandchildren- always apt to teach them life wisdom. After Bill's passing, one of her first significant actions was purchasing a new Lincoln car on her own.
Vena is preceded in death by her parents, James and Opal (Strain) Lynes; husband, Bill Bookstore; son, Charles Bookstore; sister, Loreta Scharnhorst; brothers, Jack Lynes and Carl Lynes; sister-in-law, Lottie Lynes; brothers-in-law, Louis Evans and John Scharnhorst, and other loved ones.
