IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vicky Lynne
Smith
May 29, 1960 – May 5, 2021
Vicky Lynne (Coonrod) Smith, daughter of James and Linda (Millspaugh) Coonrod was born on May 29, 1960 in Council, ID. She completed her journey in Vici, OK on May 5, 2021, 24 days before her sixty first birthday. Her childhood years were spent in New Meadows and Idaho Falls, ID. In New Meadows, the neighboring Wheatley family took a great interest in Vicky's care and became forever family. Vicky's parents then moved to Albany, OR where she started elementary school. She completed her general education in Halsey, OR as the Valedictorian of the 1978 graduating class at Central Linn High School. After high school Vicky earned her associates degree in computer programming from Linn Benton Community College in Albany, OR. She received numerous academic awards during her school years.
On July 5, 1975 at the Colorado Campout, Vicky was baptized by Brother Clifford Hutton and became a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. She remained strong in her faith the remainder of her life.
Vicky was united in marriage to James Smith in Shedd, OR on September 13, 1980. Their home in Shedd, OR was blessed with a daughter, Julie, and a son, Jake. She was a loving wife and mother. She loved taking the kids to a park for a picnic and would sit for hours letting them play. She enjoyed growing flowers, finding "deals" at garage and estate sales, collecting antiques, rock hounding, pedicures, and special facial spa treatments from her beloved friend Jasmine. She loved traveling, and was always up for an adventure. Vicky and her family traveled near and far. She loved visiting their cabin in eastern Oregon and always relished a trip to the Coast. She could always be found hauling along a pile of "special" rocks or that perfect piece of driftwood. Vicky especially enjoyed discovering Hawaii, where she loved a beach dinner at Duke's and braved a shark cage with Julie! In 2017, with Jim and Julie by her side, she was able to fulfill her dream of making a trip to Georgia to attend the Country Living Fair.
For a total of twenty-three years, Vicky served as a teaching assistant at Brownsville Academy, Sandridge Academy and Central Linn High School where she was honored to be the speaker at the 2019 graduation ceremony. She retired in 2020. During Vicky's career at these schools, she was able to touch the lives of so many. Her list of "kids" is very long. She had a deep love and care for each soul that passed through her classrooms. During this time, she developed a forever bond with Jon Metcalf, and always considered him a second son.
Vicky is preceded in death by her parents, Linda Coonrod and Bob and Jean Wheatley. Her father and mother-in-law, Clifton and Helen Smith, an uncle and aunt, Gil Schneider and Teresa Close, and a grandson, Freddie James Boedecker.
She is survived by her husband, James Smith of Shedd, OR, daughter and son in law, Julie and Josh Boedecker of Vici, OK, her son, Jake Smith of Creswell, OR and her father, James Coonrod of Lebanon, OR. Three sisters, Andrea Meyer and husband Jim of Lebanon, OR, LuAnn Wheatley of Meridian, ID and Bobbi Downey of Caldwell, ID. Her brother P.J. Coonrod and wife Alicia of St. Louis, MO, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Vicky had an almost lifelong friendship with Kay Manues and Kathy Prosser, and developed special friendships through her life with Cindy Flandermeyer, Debbie Sprout and Megan Pimm. Elysha French became more than the friend of Vicky's children. She became one of Vicky's children. So many, near and far, helped walk with Vicky through her journey of the last year and a half, and helped to hold her hands up when she was weary.
Vicky's memory will be treasured by many, and she will surely not be forgotten.
