Victor Klein was born November 26, 1911 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Reinhart and Anna (Herbel) Klein. He departed this life on July 2, 2008, at the age of 96. Victor grew up on a farm near Shattuck and attended a one-room school located across the road from the farm.
On January 26, 1938 Victor was married to Marie Kleim in Gering, Nebraska. One son, Larry John, was born to this union. Victor and Marie made their home on the farm until 1978 when they moved to a new home in Shattuck. After Marie's death in 2005, Victor moved to Florida in order to be near his family. He lived there until the time of his death.
Victor was a farmer and raised cattle for many years. In addition, he worked for ten years with the Ellis County Soil Conservation District. His life long interest in flying began as a young man when he learned to fly at the Arnett Airport. He was a dedicated fisherman, a collector of antique` bottles, and assisted in restoring several of the windmills in the Shattuck Windmill Park.
During his years in Florida, he became known as the "Oklahoma storyteller" as he regaled new friends with tales of the early days in Ellis County.
Victor joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1926. He was among the hardworking group of church members who replaced the rural Ebenezer Baptist Church with a new structure in Shattuck.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife Marie, parents Reinhart and Anna Klein; stepmother, Helen Feil Klein; and brother, Ted Klein.
He is survived by his son, Larry Klein and wife Gail of Winter Park, FL,; by grandson, Kevin Klein and wife Tracy of Winter Park, FL; by great-granddaughter, Nicole Klein of Winter Park, FL; by nephew, Kenneth Klein and wife Judi of Tulsa, OK; by great-niece, Kristin Klein Daffern of Tulsa, OK; and by 3 step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
