Obituary

Virgil Walter Ratzloff, 83 year old resident of Shattuck, Oklahoma passed from this life on November 13, 2013 at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Virgil was born on February 16, 1930 in Garden City, Kansas to Walter and Jessie (Magazine) Ratzloff.

The family lived in Hutchinson, Kansas where Virgil attended school and graduated with the class of 1949. He received an accounting degree.

On March 15, 1952 Virgil married Rose Mary Franzen at Jackson, Michigan. Five children were born to this union: Timothy Virgil, Cynthia Lee, David Walter, Daniel William and Penny Diane. Virgil joined the United States Army in August of 1950. His highest rank was Corporal and he received the following awards: United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars. Virgil received his honorable discharge in June of 1952. After returning home he worked and retired from Panhandle Eastern.

Virgil's special interests were traveling, carpentry, mechanics, camping and going to South Texas during the winter.

Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Ratzloff, parents, Walter and Jessie Ratzloff, sisters, Maxine Blanton, Joyce Zumalt and Carolyn Ratzloff, brothers, Lester Ratzloff and Ronald Ratzloff. He is survived by his sons, Timothy Ratzloff of Woodward, Oklahoma, David Ratzloff of Harmon, Oklahoma and Danny Ratzloff of Lakewood, Colorado; daughters, Cynthia Hunter of Harmon, Oklahoma and Penny Keller of Arnett, Oklahoma; sisters, Uetiva Pitt of Colorado and Helen Jones of San Antonio, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
