Former Lawton, Oklahoma, resident, Virginia Lou Roundtree, 85, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at her home in Chandler.
Virginia was born September 23, 1928 to Chester and Pearl (Walker) Speck in Hammon Oklahoma. She graduated from Vici High School in 1946 and married George Virgil that same year. She worked as a telephone operator in her parents' business in Vici and for Southwestern Bell in Oklahoma City and Lawton.
She graduated from Cameron Junior College, Lawton, in 1967 and from Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in Chickasha, OK in 1968 with a BA in Elementary Education and from Central State University, Edmond, OK, in 1976 with a M. Ed. in Special Education. She taught elementary school In Lawton and Los Angeles, California, and Special Education in Elgin, Oklahoma. She worked as a psychometrist for Oklahoma State Department of Education for 15 years, retiring in 1990.
She married Bob Roundtree on August 4, 1986. They lived in Lawton until their move to Kingston, Oklahoma on Lake Texoma in 1999. Virginia was a member of Lighthouse Methodist Church at Lake Texoma. They moved to Marlow, Oklahoma, in 2008 and then to Chandler in 2009. Virginia enjoyed her gardens, quilting, fishing, golfing, traveling and visiting family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by two sons, Ken Virgil and wife Pat of Tucson, Arizona, and Doug Virgil and wife Linda of New River, Arizona; two stepsons, Joe Roundtree and wife Carol of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Alan Roundtree and wife Jane, of Lebanon, Tennessee; grandchildren Chelsey Virgil and Casey Virgil of Tucson, Arizona, Ryan Virgil of Phoenix, Arizona, Rachel Virgil of Dallas, Texas, Sarah Virgil and husband Brandon Marin of Peoria, Arizona, Samuel Virgil of Camp Pendleton, California, Aubree Walton and husband Justin of Lawton, Oklahoma, Marsee Kervin of Frisco, Texas, Mark Roundtree of Norman, Oklahoma, Brian Roundtree of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Megan Hunt and husband Bryan of Westhampton, New Jersey, Jordan Roundtree and Josh McWaters of Lebanon, Tennessee, and nine great-grandchildren.
