He was the beloved son of Mable Naoma Hulcy and Buford Norwood Chambers. His early years were spent in various Texas locations including Archer City where he began school. When he was in the 5th grade his family relocated to Arnett, Oklahoma where he graduated from Arnett High School in 1974. The following year he was united in marriage to Sherry Hunter, in Harmon, Oklahoma. From 1992 thru 1998 Virlon pursued his calling in ministry by earning a bachelor's degree in Pastoral Ministries from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1998, he was ordained in the Missouri Church of the Nazarene District in Mound City, Missouri.

Throughout his life, Virlon faithfully served as a pastor in multiple congregations, where he enjoyed preaching, sharing the message of God's love and grace. Virlon's passions extended beyond the pulpit as he cherished spending time with his family.  He had a deep love for cattle, horseback riding, rodeos, baseball, singing and playing the guitar. A true cowboy at heart, he also held a special admiration for John Wayne. Virlon's unwavering faith, kindness, and devotion to his family and congregations will be deeply missed.
