Wana Pauline (Padgett) Kygar, daughter of Leslie Levi and Daisy Della (Dyke) Padgett, was born in the Turner community southwest of Vici, Oklahoma in the home of her great grandmother, Mary Derrick, on August 20, 1921. She passed away in the Vici Nursing Home on November 5, 2011 in Vici, Oklahoma. Wana was 90 years old at the time of her death.
Prior to her leaving home to marry, her family lived in Vici, Oklahoma, near Canadian, Texas, near Glazier, Texas and then back to Vici. Her father worked on ranches and her mother cooked for all of the ranch hands. Wana and her sister Tempest always rode horses and helped their dad in ranch work. Most people never knew Wana was an excellent horse woman.
Wana attended school at Vici graduating with the class of 1939.
On December 3, 1938 Wana Pauline Padgett and Joe A. Kygar were united in marriage at Arnett, Oklahoma. They lived near Vici, Oklahoma for a time before moving to Canadian, Texas and Lefors, Texas, where Joe worked. They then moved back to Vici where they made their home.
Wana accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior on March 7, 1982, and was baptized on July 11, 1982. On October 30, 1983 she became a member of the Vici Church of the Nazarene.
One son, Leslie Jud and one daughter, Jody Lynn were born to Wana and Joe Kygar.
Wana was a homemaker for many years, until she went to work at Shaw Funeral Home for over 25 years. She retired on March 15, 1998. Her smiling face was the first thing people saw when they came in to the funeral home. Her compassion and work with people were widely known in all the surrounding communities.
Wana's greatest love and enjoyment was her family who were so dear to her heart. For Wana each one was a perfect and special gift.
Wana and Joe held a deep feeling and love for the Vassar Cemetery, where so many of their family and friends rest. They worked many long hours there trying to improve and sort out the layout of the cemetery.
Wana P. Kygar was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Joe A. Kygar, her parents, Leslie and Daisy Padgett, a beloved grandson, Jimmy Joe Kygar, one sister, Tempest and husband KD Beall, one brother, Harland(Sonny) Padgett and brothers-in-law, Dale Coulson, Dale McAlary, Clint Kygar, and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Kygar.
Wana is survived by son Leslie "Corky" Kygar and wife Jerriann of Vici, Oklahoma, and daughter, Jody Lynn Cole and husband Leland of Vici, Oklahoma, three granddaughters, Leslie Ann Vinyard and husband Doug of Vici, Oklahoma, Cary Wilson and husband Doug of Bennington, Kansas, and Kelli Yount and husband Steve of Blanchard, Oklahoma, one grandson, Chad Cole of Dallas, Texas, eleven great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Jud, DJ, Dalton, Kaleigh, Dylan, Aubrey, Kade, Keala, Kyle and Ryan; one sister, Marlene Coulson of Yukon, Oklahoma, two sisters-in-law, Leta Padgett of Lefors, Texas and Pearl McAlary of Vici, Oklahoma, several nieces, nephews, other loved ones and many friends.
