Wanda Marzelle Von Holton, the only child of Clarence W. and Cecil Maud (Moore) Smith, was born September 16, 1927, in Leedey, Oklahoma. She passed away September 1, 2011 at the age of 83, in a convalescent home in Hayward, California after battling cancer.
As a child Wanda lived with her parents in Enid, OK, Wichita Falls, TX, Denver, CO before settling in Oakland, CA in 1944. At the age of three years old Wanda was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Because of her frequent seizures, she was home schooled. As a teenager, her favorite past time was roller skating and she thoroughly enjoyed dance skating. When Wanda was in her 30's, epilepsy medication became available and her seizures were less frequent.
On October 5, 1973, Wanda married Henry Von Holton at the Lake Tahoe Chapel in Nevada. They enjoyed a happy life together until his unexpected death on November 3, 1976.
Wanda was never able to work, but volunteered at Goodwill. She attended church at Redwood Chapel in Castro Valley. The members there were always good to take her out on her birthday and for holidays. Her caretaker, Ella, took her shopping, to her hair and doctor appointments, and helped her in many ways.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents, C.W. and Cecil Smith; grandparents Sheldon Howard and Gertrude Moore; uncles Roy and Lorane Moore; aunts Opal Pickens, Lucille Smith and Bernice Hill.
