IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wanda Bell
Williams
January 27, 1928 – February 22, 2021
Wanda Williams was born to Roy and Addie (Vosburgh) Neu at their country home southwest of Shattuck on January 27, 1928. When she reached school age, she rode on horseback to the Valley View School, which was about halfway between Lake Vincent and Podunk. After the third grade they consolidated with the Bishop School, which was south of Lake Vincent, where they had a bus to pick kids up. During junior high she went to Arnett where she graduated the 8 th Grade. While there she loved playing basketball. Wanda went to high school in Higgins, Texas, graduating in 1946. It was during this time that she met Carlos Williams. Also it was at this time she started going to the Baptist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized.
After graduation, World War II was going on and Carlos was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. They decided to get married and on November 8, 1946 they were married in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While there, they went to Bethany Baptist Church. Wanda worked at Mountain States Bell Telephone Company and in the Telephone Lounge at Fort Carson.
They spent their first 13 years of marriage in Colorado where all four children were born- Sharon, Michael, David, and Kenneth. In July of 1959, they moved to Higgins, Texas in a wheat truck with a tarp over the back with a place for the kids to lay and sleep. They lived in Higgins until the Summer of 1963, when they moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma where Wanda lived until passing.
Wanda was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Shattuck, where she was very active. She taught many different classes and served on many committees. She was active in Acteens and Acteen Mission Trip. She even went to Falls Creek with the youth. Later in life, she loved her Adult III Sunday school class.
Wanda was very involved in living life. She always loved watching things grow and had lots of flower beds with beautiful flowers and plants. She loved to cook, to sew and make quilts, to do crafts and art projects and to clean house. She received great satisfaction from any work and made finishing a priority and instilled this drive into her kids. Wanda worked at the Newman Memorial Clinic business office from 1968 to 1978. She also enjoyed taking some time, and with pen in hand, write some poetry.
She always enjoyed camping and in 1993, became very involved in the Tornado Sams chapter of the Good Sam Camping Organization. Here they made many friends who were considered very special friends. During her many camping trips, as well as many other opportunities, she loved to fish and play games.
What she considered one of the highlights of her life was the celebration of her 50 th Wedding Anniversary in November of 1996 and being able to celebrate it in the new activity center at the First Baptist Church.
Wanda Williams finished her race and on February 22, 2021, punched her ticket to Heaven. Those that preceded her were her husband Carlos, her mother and father Roy and Addie Neu, her brother Roy Don Neu and her sister Waunita Thompson. Those she leaves behind are her daughter Sharon Price and her husband Roger, son Michael Williams and his wife Peggy, son David Williams and his wife Noretta, son Kenneth Williams and his wife Leah Anne, a sister Wilma Rae Satterwhite and husband James.
