"Grandad" as he was fondly known by his family was a kind, soft-spoken man who always had time for his family, brethren, and friends. He loved to tell about his childhood and exciting stories of his life. Sadly on June 29, 2015, Donald "Wayne" Boyd passed from this life. Wayne was born on March 24, 1931, to his parents Hugh and Audrey (Cole) Boyd. He had an older brother Gene, sister Johanna, (who died during the dust bowl) younger sister Shirlene, and little brother Bud. Wayne attended grade school at Bloomfield and later at Vici School. He went to work at a young age for Broce Construction. He told many stories of running heavy equipment and building roads. Wayne only had eyes for one girl Charlotte Arlene Moss. Wayne joined the army and served as a medic stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. His heart had other plans and he called the love of his life, Arlene Moss, to come to Alaska and marry him. In 1954 her mother Verla Boyd, put her on a plane where she flew to Alaska to meet him. They had many exciting stories of their newlywed days of the bitter cold and Arlene crying because she was homesick.
After being honorably discharged from the army, Wayne and Arlene moved to Oklahoma City where he went to barber school. There they started their family. Mitchell Wayne was born in 1956 and Russell Lee in 1959. They took the boys on many trips and loved to go fishing, camping, and hunting. Wayne became a member of The General Assembly and Church of The First Born while in Oklahoma City. He dedicated his life to the Lord and helping brethren and friends with many wonderful acts of care and giving. He was an example of charity and faith. In 1968 Wayne and his family moved to Vici. The boys loved living on the farm "green acres" as they called it.
Wayne went to work for Bud's Grocery as a meat cutter. He enjoyed being back home with family and friends. Later he went to work for Texaco where he retired at age 59. He built a house for his family in 1974 southeast of Vici next to dad, Hugh Boyd. He devoted his time to the farm, making improvements and helping his dad and Granny Verla. He enjoyed his herd of Hereford cattle and spent many hours tending and caring for them.
In 1980 he became "Grandad." He was a devoted granddad. He and Grandma Bobo loved weiner roasts, fishing, boating, and playing fun games. He always made a big bowl of buttered popcorn (the real kind) and played on the floor with his 6 grandkids.
The grandkids loved his catfish pond. He would honk and the fish would be ready for their dog food. Great fun!
In 2005 they became great grandparents. His eyes lit up when they came to visit. In 2010 he lost his loving devoted wife, Arlene, of over 56 years. She was greatly missed by all.
He enjoyed his 10 great grandchildren and spent many hours helping his kids and grandkids. He was always ready to attack any work to be done. No job was too big and he often paid for it with a bruise, cut, or aching bones. Wayne loved being outdoors and always had a project.
The past two years Kay Bell Manues stayed with Wayne and helped with his care. She never knew what to expect when she arrived, eggs blowing up on the stove or water running out the door. He always anticipated her arrival and what goodies she would bring to eat.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Mitch and wife Shirlene Boyd and Russ and wife Lorri Boyd. Grandkids Nathan and Stephanie Winters, Mitch and Angel Boyd, Zac and Chasney Boyd, Brody Boyd and friend Kelsi, Cole and Kelly Taylor, and Stacy Boyd. His great grandkids Aaron, Allie, Colton, Madison, Calli, Dane, Megan, Reed, Mackenzie, and Maverick. Also left to cherish his memory are Shirlene Cunningham, Lena Reed, Bud and Corene Boyd, Merlene Moss, Allen and Eula Moss, and Ralph and Arlinda Nauman.
Wayne had many nieces, nephews, cousins, brethren, and friends to remember him. Wayne kept the faith to the end. He was a humble and faithful servant.
