Obituary

Henry Wayne Dorsey, always known as Wayne, passed away on April 22, 2024, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, at the age of 97. He was born on December 13, 1926, in Ashland, Kansas, to John Shell and Ruby E. (Mull) Dorsey.

Wayne grew up in the Coldwater, Kansas community and attended grade school and high school in Ashland. He pursued higher education at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Wayne served his country in the Naval Air Force as a waist gunner and was stationed at Banana River, near Cape Canaveral, Florida.

At age 22, he was baptized and became a member of the Methodist Church, attending the Antioch Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). On June 5, 1949, Wayne married Imogene Oller in Coldwater, Kansas, and their union was blessed with a son Douglas, two daughters Kimberly Diane and Tamara.

Over the years, Wayne and Imogene established homes in Lubbock, Texas; Hobbs, New Mexico; and Liberal, Kansas, before settling in Shattuck, Oklahoma, where they made their permanent home. Wayne worked in the oilfield industry for many years as a Senior Well Testing Technician. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed camping and water skiing in his leisure time.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Dorsey; infant daughter, Kimberly Diane Dorsey; his son, Douglas Wayne Dorsey; his siblings, Gene Dorsey and Margie Sakdol; and a nephew, Perry Wayne Dorsey.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Imogene Dorsey of Shattuck, Oklahoma; his daughter, Tammy Imke and her husband, Larry, of Shattuck, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Wayne will be remembered for his service, his dedication to his family, and his many skills and hobbies. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed.
