Obituary

Wayne Harding Huff, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, went home to be with Jesus on October 19, 2011, at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 8 days. He was born in Harmon, Oklahoma, on April 11, 1921, to Thomas and Jesse Huff. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister: Fred, Ralph, Edison, and Mamie Huff Chamberlain.

After serving four years in the Navy during World War II, Wayne married the love of his life, Julianna Regier, in 1945. Julianna went to be with the Lord last year in August. They were married for almost 65 years, and Wayne would be glad to know she never spent a day as a widow. To their union, four children were born: Dennis, Fred, Tommy and Carol. Tommy passed away at the age of 22 months. Survivors include son Dennis Huff and wife Margie of Amarillo, Texas, son Fred Huff and wife Saundra of Balko, Oklahoma, daughter Carol Huff Wright and husband Mark of Choctaw, Oklahoma, grandchildren: Jerry, Michael, Jason and Stacy Huff, Kristi and Ky Flock, and Andy, Morgan and Joshua Wright, and great-grandchildren: Brenden Flock, and Hannah, Henry, A.J., Aiden and Oliver Wright. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Wayne found Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of fifteen, in a revival meeting at the Eddy Schoolhouse, east of Arnett. Two of the young men helping in the revival were Jacob Regier and Marcus Adair. Both became Wayne's life-long friends. Wayne traveled as a gospel worker as a young man, singing in quartets and playing the guitar and piano. In 1940, Marcus introduced Wayne to Jacob's sister, Julianna. They wrote to each other every day while Wayne served as a radioman in the navy during World War II. They were married in Perryton, Texas, in November 1945, the day after he returned from the war.

Wayne and Julianna attended the Apostolic Faith Bible School in Baxter Springs, Kansas, in the winter of 1946. Later that year they moved to Vici, Oklahoma, where Wayne worked as a radio repairman, and their son Dennis was born. Wayne learned piano tuning and repair through a correspondence course. He went to work for Jenkins Music Company, in downtown Oklahoma City, where their son Fred was born in 1949. They lived in a neat little house with a white picket fence on SW 20th street, where Dennis started school at Rockwood Elementary.

Wayne moved his family to their home in Midwest City in 1952, where they lived when Tommy and Carol were born. They had room for a big garden, Shetland ponies, tall trees, neighborhood ball games of all kinds, bicycle riding, and woods close enough for the kids to walk for overnight camping trips. The children attended Soldier Creek Elementary and graduated from Carl Albert High School.

Wayne helped start the Apostolic Faith Church, next door to their home, with its' first pastor, Frank Stimpson. He was a faithful supporter, bible teacher, board member, pianist, and singer in that church until he and Julianna moved to Muskogee in 1973. From there they moved to Canyon, Texas, where he helped his old friend Marcus Adair with the student center and Faith Chapel, while continuing to tune pianos, until 1985. At age 64, Wayne decided it was time to "retire", which meant he would stop working on Saturdays. He and Julianna moved to a lovely home in the community of Pickett, near Ada, Oklahoma, where they lived on a beautiful acreage with lots of fruit trees and a big garden. Wayne continued to tune pianos for the college in Ada and other local customers for another 18 years, until the age of 83. While in the Ada area, they were faithful supporters and workers at the local Salvation Army church. When asked why he continued to work at such an advanced age, Wayne would say, "We don't need the extra money to live. But, if I stop working, I will have nothing to give". He gave of himself, until there was no more to give.

After Wayne was no longer able to work, he and Julianna lived together at the Seasons Assisted Living Center in Perryton, Texas, and at the Meredith House in Pampa, Texas. When his condition worsened, he moved to the Veteran Center in Clinton, Oklahoma, in February of 2006, where he lived until his departure from this life.

Even after he was no longer able to speak, Wayne continued to be a good influence. His smile was well known at the Veterans Center. The family appreciates so much the wonderful care he received there from the nurses and staff, who became his dear friends, and lovingly called him "Huffy".

Wayne Huff will be sorely missed and never forgotten by his family and friends. His life is a great example of how to live as a godly man. We release him into the arms of Jesus, his Savior and dearest friend, and we thank God for all He has done for us through His servant, Wayne Huff.
