IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayne
Shahan
March 3, 1944 – February 9, 2023
Cecil Wayne Shahan was born to Porter and Daisy (Gifford) Shahan on March 3, 1944. Wayne grew up in the Harmon OK. community, first on the Briggs Ranch and later on the family farm and dairy. He attended Arnett Public School and graduated in May 1962. Upon graduation, Wayne attended Panhandle State University. H was a member of the Jr. and Sr. livestock judging team competing at Denver, Ft. Worth, Houston and Chicago. He was a member of the Block and Bridle Club and he worked at the college farm and dairy. He made many, many friends and had lots of stories to tell about his Aggie days at PSU. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry, Wayne worked for Moody Farms Feedlot at Lefors, TX. On July 5, 1969 Wayne was united in marriage to Paula Mae Quarles. In April of 1970 they welcomed their son Rusty into the home where they continued to live until May of 1971. After Porter's death, Wayne and family moved back to the family farm near Harmon. Wayne worked a variety of jobs while working the farm. Some of his various jobs were at Tonkawa Refinery, Woodward Livestock Auction and rough necking on several drilling rigs as a floor hand and derrick man. In 1976 Wayne went to work for the United States Postal Service. His first substitute carrier position was out of his home post office in Harmon. In time he substituted out of Sharon, OK. before becoming a regular carrier there. In 1993, again, he got the opportunity to carry out of his home post office of Arnett where he carried for thirteen years before retiring in 2002 with twenty six years as a Rural Letter Carrier. He took great pride in providing service to "his customers". Although he was always in a hurry, he really enjoyed any visiting he got to do along the route. After retirement he spent most days working around the farm, building fence, cutting cedar trees and various other chores. In 2011 when Rusty and Debbie moved to the farm, Wayne started helping Rusty building fence and welding for the public until he could no longer continue. Along the way, Wayne was a member of the Harmon Nazarene Church, the Rural Letter Carriers Ass'n., Harmon Cemetery Board, Harmon Volunteer Fire Department and the First Christian Church of Woodward.
