Dailand Wesley Fleming was born November 8, 1930, in Shattuck, Oklahoma to George and Christine (Imke) Fleming. He passed from this life November 4, 2013 at the Shattuck Nursing Center.
Wes grew up and was still living on Ivanhoe Creek, NW of Shattuck, before entering the nursing center. Wes attended Ivanhoe's one room school thru the 8th grade and then attended and graduated from Shattuck High School with the class of 1949. He joined the US Air Force in July of 1951, and was honorably discharged on July 13, 1959. On December 6, 1951, he married Ruby Faye Norman in Enid, Oklahoma, and two daughters were born to this marriage, Donnita Gail and Lesta Lea.
Wes loved to dance and taught both daughters to dance, with waltzes being his favorites. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed doing both with friends and family, especially with his grandsons. Wes was active in FFA during his high school years showing cattle, and held a district office which was very special to him. He continued to be an avid supporter of the Shattuck FFA program for many years, sponsoring trophies and helped at the premium auction every year. Wes was very proud of his grandsons during their showing careers and cheered them on at all of their stock shows.
Wes supported the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo, TX, and was a member of the local American Legion and VFW.
Wes is preceded in death by his wife Ruby, parents George and Christine, and a son-in-law J.D. Thomas.
He is survived by his daughters Donnita Pitzer and husband Keith of Foss, Oklahoma, Lesta Dewald of Shattuck, Oklahoma; sister Beverly Kuhlman and husband Jerry of Shattuck, Oklahoma; grandchildren Bryan File, Cody File and wife Vanessa, Austin Thomas and wife Tonya, Dixie Smith and husband Roy, Sheila Sutton and husband Justin, Stephanie Ezzell, Lance Pitzer and wife Hollie; great-grandchildren Caden, Maegen, Brooke, Braeden, Dahlyn, Kaylie, Macy, Brance, and Brennan; special friend Coleen Hiner; other relatives and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Oklahoma FFA Foundation or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo, TX
